Soap, metal, river rock
Used and Worn is an installation that is anthropomorphic, reflecting the journey that each of us undertakes as we go through life.
The work has been created with bars of used soap. Each of the bars carries its own individual shape, form and personality. The surfaces become a metaphor for the psychological and physical nicks, scars and bruises that are a part of the journey. Worn stones are also included in the work. Their surfaces resonate with repetitive barriers to healing and acceptance. The soap and stones are mounted in sarcophagus-like cans, which represent the end of all our journeys.
Nearly 500 hundred bars of used soap were used to create the installation and were collected over a six month period. They were donated from people from all walks of life. The metal cans and soap are mounted directly to the wall to create a grid like form measuring approximately 6 feet high by 8 feet wide and 1/2" deep.
